Serbian President Boris Tadic arrived on Thursday in Bucharest, Romanian capital city. He met the Romanian President, Traian Basescu and made a statement which suggests the attitude of Belgrade towards Kosovo declaration of independence.
Tadic began his statement by thanking the Romanian authorities for not having recognized Kosovo as a country and observed that “Romania remains the traditional ally of Serbia” (well, he might have forgotten that Romania allowed NATO aircrafts to trespass its borders in order to bombard Serbia, back in 1999).
“It is not a fortuite occasion that I am now in Bucharest, at a time when Serbia faces one of the greatest challenges of its history - the Kosovo problem. Romania is a traditional friend of Serbia, it was in the past and it is in the present.”
Tadic than asserted that Serbia won’t make use of military force to obstruct the Kosovo independence, mainly because it would isolate his country and nullify its chances of joining the European Union. Anyhow, the Serbian President clearly stated that Belgrade will never recognize the Kosovo inependence.
As for the Romanian President, he asked the Serbian politicians to try to establish a dialogue with Pristina.
During the late afternoon, Boris Tadic will meet the Romanian Prime Minister and the presidents of the Senate and Deputees Chamber.
